An emotional support animal is a type of animal that is able to comfort an individual living with a mental or emotional disability. These animals are often therapeutic and can help patients relieve depression, anxiety, and stress-induced pain, among other sources of comfort.
This letter can be used to advocate for a patient whose quality of life would be benefited by having an emotional support animal, yet who lives in a space (e.g. public housing) that prohibits pets or requires that the tenant pay extra money.
